zhouhaochen Posted August 1, 2024 at 03:35 AM Report Posted August 1, 2024 at 03:35 AM Ok, so first for those who do not know: I have been on this forum for 15+ years and work for LTL. This topic is for people to ask questions, give feedback or anything else related to LTL Mandarin School Chengdu. History: LTL Mandarin School started in Beijing almost 20 years ago. LTL today has physical schools in Shanghai, Taipei, Singapore, Beihai, Saigon, Seoul, Tokyo and since this year also Chengdu. We previously ran immersion programs in Chengdu, but stopped this now and built a full physical central school there. We still run full immersion programs in Chengde. Location: We are very central downtown on Huaxing East Road. Google maps does not allow verifying business inside China anymore, so we cannot create a Google Maps listing for LTL Chengdu, however here is the link to the building we are in https://maps.app.goo.gl/d8HKcdUPS3nWKfDv7 Classes: LTL offers both small group and 1on1 classes. All group classes are small. The average class size is 2-3 students. Accommodation: LTL offers both shared apartments and homestay accommodation for its students. About 80% of our students choose to stay in a homestay. Note: LTL homestays are reserved for LTL students only and you can only stay in an LTL homestay if you are a full time LTL Mandarin student. Events: LTL Chengdu does loads of social events in Chengdu, usually lead by our school director Mandy and teacher Unicorn who is as much fun as her English language name 🤩. Costs: All LTL programs (courses and accommodation) in Chengdu come at a 20% discount to LTL Beijing and Shanghai programs. The cost of study materials is included in the course price. There are no registration, accommodation finding or other fees. Any questions about studying Mandarin in Chengdu, LTL, courses, homestays or anything else are very welcome and I will reply to all of them. 1 Quote

New Members Anja Posted April 18, 2025 at 11:24 AM New Members Report Posted April 18, 2025 at 11:24 AM Everything at LTL Chengdu is just right: highly qualified teachers, a dedicated team, and a welcoming atmosphere. My teacher Presli was a real highlight – competent, patient, creative, and with a great sense for teaching. Her English is very good, and she explains complex topics in a way that’s easy to understand. The school is located in a beautiful new office building in a great part of town. Chengdu itself really surprised me – it’s a massive city, but it feels relaxed and even cozy in some ways. People are open and friendly, and I often found myself smiling just from the warmth of everyday interactions. 2 1 Quote
language_lover Posted June 16, 2025 at 02:07 AM Report Posted June 16, 2025 at 02:07 AM This is really cool Anja. How did you find the accent in Chengdu and did the teachers speak standard Mandarin or where there is a Sichuanese twang you had to navigate? Quote
New Members nick o Posted June 20, 2025 at 07:51 AM New Members Report Posted June 20, 2025 at 07:51 AM I spent 4 weeks at LTL Chengdu, I loved my classmates, my classroom and my teacher! Presli always supported me learn Chinese at a speed that suited me. Inside or outside of class she would always answer any questions and support me in my learning journey. She went above and beyond my expectations for a tutor, I am very glad to have been her student. LTL Chengdu is a very social school, with daily lunch together and Social Thursdays every week. These were a great opportunity to practice my speaking skills with local chinese whilst also making friends. I highly recommend going to LTL Chengdu to fast track your Chinese language skills. 3 Quote
New Members RebeccaMaria Posted July 7, 2025 at 02:54 AM New Members Report Posted July 7, 2025 at 02:54 AM I was very lucky to have Presli as my Mandarin teacher at the LTL Language School in Chengdu. She is not only a gifted teacher, but also one of the kindest and most open-hearted and people I have met. She always brought a sense of wonder and energy to class. Her open-mindedness a warm personality creates a welcoming atmosphere where I felt encouraged and supported. One of the things I appreciated most is Presli’s flexibility. She always adjusted our classes to my needs, focused on practicing lacking skills and took feedback into account and improved. She also brought a little bit of creativity to every class, which made it more fun. Also, her English is very good which helped a lot during classes! Furthermore, Presli did not only teach me Mandarin, but also introduced me to the Chinese Culture (e.g. took me to food spots, shopping malls and showed me the city) and her friends, which was very helpful as I knew nobody. I feel very lucky to have had her as a teacher and a friend. 3 Quote

I had the same worry when we first thought about starting an LTL Language School in Chengdu there. I had visited last around 2010 and I remembered a strong accent, plus hearing almost no Mandarin on the streets. You would not believe how different it is now. All teachers of course speak standard Mandarin, but also in downtown Chengdu (thats where LTL Chengdu is located, so thats where I spend most of my time) you hear almost no Sichuanese anymore at all. It is all standard Mandarin. It might be different in rural areas, but in the city when shopping, going to restaurants etc. Mandarin (with good pronunciation) is the only language you will hear. Chengdu has changed A LOT. Not just the language actually, also the city. It used to be a bit backward compared to the coastal cities like Beijing and Shanghai, though that is definitely not the case anymore. Amazing subway system, fully digitalized, very modern, developing and moving forward. Personally I find Chengdu currently the most positive and moving forward city in all of China. Quote
New Members Ilka Posted July 8, 2025 at 12:08 PM New Members Report Posted July 8, 2025 at 12:08 PM LTL Chengdu is the perfect place to study Chinese in a really nice atmosphere. I spent 4 weeks in Chengdu and could not recommend it more. My teacher Presli made my time in Chengdu the best I could have imagined! The classes with her were always fun and she helped me improve my Chinese a lot during this month. She is definitly a teacher at heart, that cares a lot about her students and gives her best to help everyone studying at a suitable pace. She would always be patient with me and answered all my questions, even outside the classroom. I am really happy to have had her as my teacher and hope to be able coming back one day! Also the other teachers Unicorn and Ying and the other LTL students are super friendly, which creates a really welcoming atmosphere in the school all the time! It‘s easy to connect with each other and practice your Chinese with different people. Really helpful for practicing are also the social activities that the school organizes, where chinese buddies are joining for language exchange. I really recommend this school if you‘re looking for a school, that‘s not only focused on teaching the language in a classroom, but creates many possibilities to practice in real settings and connect with likeminded people! 1 Quote

Interesting comment. My first time to Chengdu was 2024 so I never saw the Chengdu you did. I've been there twice and always had a good feeling about the city. I think if I were to live in China again, Chengdu would be near the top of my list. Quote

Yes, Chengdu is incredibly popular now both for Chinese and international visitors. The vibe is still more relaxed than Beijing or Shanghai, but it is a modern city that has a lot to offer. The costs are also lower. All LTL courses and accommodation at LTL Chengdu come at a 20% discount, but also food, drinks etc. are more affordable there. For me the main point would be the food though. I really dont think any other city (except Changcha) in China has as good food as Chengdu does. Quote
New Members Patrik Ondricek Posted August 1, 2025 at 08:03 PM New Members Report Posted August 1, 2025 at 08:03 PM I attended the one-week course with my friend in Chengdu, and I was genuinely surprised by how amazing the experience was. Next year, I’m already planning to return for at least a month! Our teacher, Unicorn, was fantastic—truly the best you could ask for. She was friendly, kind, and an excellent language teacher. She supported us with everything we needed in Chengdu and made sure we had a wonderful stay. Panpan, Mandy, and the rest of the team were awesome too. It was a pleasure getting to know them, and I can confidently say that LTL Chengdu is run by great people. If you love exploring new cultures, making new friends, and learning a new language all at once—this experience is for you! Quote
New Members Kal AlBader Posted October 23, 2025 at 08:52 AM New Members Report Posted October 23, 2025 at 08:52 AM My 3-week program at LTL was incredible, and a huge part of that was my teacher, Panpan. She made learning Chinese not only effective but also really fun. Her patience and clear explanations gave me the confidence to pass the HSK 1 exam. 很高兴 ! Outside of class, the Chengdu Safari was a highlight. We got to explore amazing parts of the city, which was a fantastic and immersive cultural experience. It was the perfect way to practice what we learned in class. I can't recommend Panpan enough. Tā shì zuì hǎo de lǎoshī! If you're thinking about studying at LTL, you should definitely do it 1 Quote

New Members An Ning Posted October 27, 2025 at 04:37 PM New Members Report Posted October 27, 2025 at 04:37 PM I spent 3 weeks at Chengdu LTL school to start learning Mandarin from zero. I was very pleased with what I could learn in that short time, especially due to my lovely teacher Pànpàn who would always search for the best way of explaining the things to me and was always very patient with me. She was quite flexible in adapting her teaching style to my needs. Besides classes with her were fun, so I was always looking foreward to them. And even besides classes, she would always answer my questions or help me out with daily life struggles in a new country. I´m very glad I had her as my teacher. Also the other teachers, Unicorn and Ying are lovely and always took good care of us. The teachers and Mandy even showed us around the city, took us to the places we should see and the meals we should try. Also the atmosphere among the students was quite comfortable and we enjoyed spending time together after classes. That made my experience in Chengdu very rich and I hope to come back to see everyone again! I´m especially grateful for Pànpàn and Unicorn for taking such good care of us. 1 Quote

New Members Brightrabbit Posted October 31, 2025 at 01:15 PM New Members Report Posted October 31, 2025 at 01:15 PM I had a good experience studying with LTL Chengdu! My teacher Panpan is excellent, she always makes the classes interesting and listens to your wishes and preferred learning methods. She’s also extremely helpful and always ready to share her knowledge about Chinese culture and history! All the staff I met, like Mandy, Unicorn, and Ying were very helpful, fun and positive people! And the environment at the school is very warm and welcoming. And Chengdu as a location is fantastic with friendly and easygoing people and fantastic food! And many interesting places nearby you can explore on your free time! Quote
New Members Lennart Posted November 28, 2025 at 03:37 AM New Members Report Posted November 28, 2025 at 03:37 AM I had an amazing time at the LTL school in Chengdu. In two weeks I was able to learn so much more than I expected! My teacher (Unicorn) made the lessons interesting, kept a very good pace and adjusted the lessons to my preferences as well. I really appreciate the flexibility, because it's not always easy to adopt to the style of the student. We also had a lot of after school activities with the teachers and the others students which were very fun! I personally love the location, because Chengdu is much more immersive than the other big cities, and also Sichuan people are famously easy to make friends with. Quote
New Members Andreea G Posted December 31, 2025 at 03:46 AM New Members Report Posted December 31, 2025 at 03:46 AM I came to Chengdu to study with LTL and it has been a great experience. New Members Araceli Posted December 31, 2025 at 04:39 AM New Members Report Posted December 31, 2025 at 04:39 AM I did a 3 month program with LTL Language School in Chengdu. All teachers and staff at LTL Chengdu were great! Since the beginning I felt welcomed and included in all activities that took place. I am grateful to my teacher Panpan. She is professional and friendly at the same time. She was enthusiastic in every class which made classes a lot of fun but also ensured that lessons matched my learning pace. Panpan was a huge support inside and outside of the class. I am also thankful to Giulia, who was a great help as I navigated many things while being in China for the first time. I am glad I choose LTL Chengdu. It was a memorable experience. I highly recommend LTL Chengdu. Quote
