New Members chineseamerican1234 Posted January 26, 2026 at 12:31 AM New Members Report Posted January 26, 2026 at 12:31 AM I'm a software engineer currently thinking of a gap year or 2 living in China, and figuring out my next steps from here. I have more than enough money to survive in China, so finances aren't an issue. One thing I am considering is career transition into teaching which I find more interesting, albeit with lower pay. How well do I qualify for the MTCSOL if my undergrad degree was in Computer Science? I'm at HSK6 because my parents taught me Chinese really well when I was young, despite growing up in the US. I never had any formal education in Chinese at all. It seems like from Google search. I went to a top school for CS and my undergrad GPA was a 3.5. Would a lack of a humanities degree hurt my application in any way? And the other question is, would an MTCSOL from China be recognized as a Masters by public schools in the US, thus exempting me from completing another Masters course if I were to teach in the US? I'm pretty sure I would also need a post bacc teaching certification back in the US in order to teach. Thanks in advance! Quote
