In general the Mandarin level of students in China at LTL has increased compared to pre-COVID. We used to have mainly complete beginners to beginner intermediate (when they started - they were higher when leaving of course), though now we have a lot more students of much higher levels too. 1 Quote
New Members Louise B Posted January 10, 2026 at 07:57 AM New Members Report Posted January 10, 2026 at 07:57 AM I chose to study Mandarin in LTL Shanghai from September to November 2025 and I had such a great time. I started from the most basic and foundational level they offered (A0) and went up from there. The teaching structure of the school was fast as it seems that it was designed for short-term students. This quickly paced course however, still manages to include all the necessary structures, grammar notes and most important and useful words pertaining to each level. By the end of my stay, I have gone through levels A0, A1, A2, and B1 in only three months! I am highly satisfied with the progress I made as someone who learned the language from the very beginning. I am extremely grateful to my teachers during my stay in LTL Shanghai: Winnie and Ray. They were patient and interactive when it came to the lessons, accommodating my questions regarding the language itself and life in Shanghai. I would like to express my appreciation especially to Winnie for teaching me the language with as minimal confusion as possible and being so welcoming and helpful when I had minor issues and inquiries about Shanghai (ex. delivery, finding a local church, good places to find things I needed, etc.). I learned well with how organized the teachers taught the lessons. Alex and Mojca were also of great help when I was adjusting to the new city and when I wanted to move to a new apartment. I highly recommend LTL Shanghai for anyone who wants to learn Mandarin and is intimidated to learn it in a new city! 1 1 Quote

The new LTL Shanghai school is beautiful (if you were there in September 2026 you probably still saw the old one opposite to the new one), but we dont have so many pics of it online yet. Quote
New Members gabibisz Posted January 18, 2026 at 04:07 PM New Members Report Posted January 18, 2026 at 04:07 PM I did a one-month language program at this school, and I had a really great experience. I was a complete beginner in Mandarin, so it was definitely challenging at first, but also very rewarding. I had two amazing teachers, Jamie and Winnie, who helped me a lot throughout the program. They were very patient, kind, and fun, which made the classes enjoyable and comfortable, even when the content was difficult. I feel like I improved a lot in just one month. It was a challenging but very fun experience, and the school offers good support for students. Overall, I really recommend this program, especially for people starting from zero. Quote

Learning the language is challenging, but also very fun. Everyone here is very kind and always willing to help, which makes the classes even better. I’d also like to thank my teachers, Jamie and Winnie — they are excellent professionals, very patient, and amazing at what they do. I’m really enjoying this experience. Learning Mandarin here has been a fun, challenging experience and I’ve really enjoyed it!!! Quote
New Members Angelique J Posted January 31, 2026 at 09:07 AM New Members Report Posted January 31, 2026 at 09:07 AM LTL has been a very good environment for me to learn, especially seeing people from various kinds of backgrounds with a passion for learning Chinese has been really motivating for me. My teachers have been better than what I expected! I have Jamie for my one on one and group classes and she has really helped me fast track with learning mandarin both learning formally and speaking colloquially. She’s very patient and accomodating to making sure I excel in weak areas, she’s fun when teaching yet serious with making sure I do my best. I also have Winnie for my group classes and her teaching style has been very helpful! I like the way she wants all of us to do our best, goes into detail and explains the logic behind what we learn so we can better remember what we learn. Classes have been really enjoyable as both teachers are very fun and easy going! Overall, my experience at LTL has been really good, and am looking forward to coming back again in the future!! Quote
New Members Ianzoll Posted March 29, 2026 at 03:15 PM New Members Report Posted March 29, 2026 at 03:15 PM I’ve really enjoyed my time at this language school and would happily recommend it to anyone thinking about studying here. I’ve been here for four weeks so far and will be staying for five months in total, and it already feels like I’ve made a lot of progress. My first week ended up being one-on-one lessons (just by chance, since the other student was delayed getting his visa), and that turned out to be an amazing way to start. It helped me build a strong foundation and get comfortable right away. My teacher, Jamie, has been fantastic—especially when it comes to teaching vocabulary. She explains things clearly and makes sure we actually use new words in context through mock scenarios, which has helped me feel much more confident speaking. The lessons feel practical and engaging rather than just theoretical. Winnie is also wonderful and brings a lot of personality into the classroom. When there’s extra time, she sometimes shares more informal language, like LGBT slang, which makes learning feel more real and current. One of the most helpful experiences I had was going to get food with her after class—having a teacher there to guide you through ordering and cheer you on really builds confidence in a way that classroom learning alone can’t. The staff overall are very helpful and approachable, which makes settling in easy. Classes are very small, which is a huge advantage. I’m currently studying with just one other A1-level student, so we get a lot of personalized attention. Because of this, I feel like I’ve been able to improve quickly in a short amount of time. The location is also great. There are lots of good, affordable, and international restaurants nearby, so it’s easy to grab food before or after class. It’s also close to the metro, which makes getting around the city very convenient. As for accommodation, I stayed in a studio arranged by the school. It was decent and within about 30 minutes of the school, but the kitchen wasn’t ideal. It works well when you first arrive, but I’d recommend finding your own place after a few weeks if possible—it can be more comfortable and cost-effective. Overall, it’s been a great experience so far, and I’m excited to continue. Between the quality of teaching, the supportive environment, and the opportunity to practice in real-life situations, I’d definitely recommend coming to LTL. Quote
