Luxi Posted December 29, 2025 at 02:51 PM Report Posted December 29, 2025 at 02:51 PM Starting a new topic because can't find one that applies 100% and would be easy to find, mods feel free to move if wanted. I streamed 2 over the X'mas holiday that I liked. One I've been waiting for during the last 2 years《长安三万里》, English title in You Tube is "Chang' An" is free to watch in a channel called "Movies and TV" . There have been a few appearances of this movie in You Tube but were taken down raher quickly. This one seems to be legit and is a very good copy with good English subtitles. I hope it's accessible to everyone who is interested. I couldn't find Chinese subs, but there must be available somewhere. The film was a huge success when it opened China, I think it topped the revenues list for the year. I would be surprised if it inspired as much as a polite 'Like' abroad, but it is a good film and a superb animation (computer made, predating AI), as well as a very important topic in Chinese studies. There's plenty of battle action and of course many poems and lots of booze. The historic background is OK but the film seems to take some liberties with the poets' actual biographies...I guess the producers needed to create interactions between the poets, lone poets reciting verse on a lonely mountain wouldn't have attracted the crowds. "Left Handed Girl" from Taiwan, is on Netflix UK and probably several other countries. It's very different from the above. I'm sure will end up winning some nice awards over the next moths. Being a left handed girl myself, I was naturally interested but didn't expect such a good and quite funny film, with such great acting. I won't say any more about it, but the What's on Netflix web site calls is "One of the best Netflix movies of the year". Quote
