DarkestLight Posted April 27, 2025 at 10:56 PM Report Posted April 27, 2025 at 10:56 PM So, my HSK 5 result has just been announced and I scored 151/300. I know the passing score for HSK 5 is 180/300. However, the "passing status" bar on the website shows it as cmpletely green with a celebratory emoji as if I've passed. i've only seen that with people who have passed their exams so now I'm confused as to how can that be. Could it be a mistake on the website or have the rules changed and I wasn't informed. Personally, I wish it to be the latter as this is a graduation requirement and I don't have time for another test. Please help. Quote

New Members Lilie Posted November 3, 2025 at 10:13 PM New Members Report Posted November 3, 2025 at 10:13 PM Hi, I have the exact same issue : I got a 169/300 score, which is not supposed to be enough, but the website also shows this celebration emoji with a green bar. Did you end up understanding whether you passed or not ? I'm confused, and I also need to graduate. Thank you ! Quote
becky82 Posted November 5, 2025 at 01:27 AM Report Posted November 5, 2025 at 01:27 AM Well, here's mine too: Quote And here's a photo of my certificate. So what's going on? Back in ~2013, when the HSK2.0 standards were released, some research was conducted into how useful the HSK exam was. Among that research was 《新HSK为什么要取消合格线》 (archive.org) which found: Quote 综上所述,新HSK保留合格线,缺少充足的理由。新HSK在合格线问题上应该不再骑墙,尽快全面取消其合格线。笔者希望能在2014年的新HSK考试中看到这一变化。 Google Translate gives: Quote In conclusion, there is a lack of sufficient justification for retaining the passing score in the new HSK exam. The new HSK should stop ambiguity regarding the passing score and should abolish it entirely as soon as possible. I hope to see this change in the 2014 HSK exam. The researcher felt that the 60% pass/fail line was arbitrary, and should be abolished. Since then, there's technically been no "pass" or "not pass" on the HSK exams, which is why it's not showing up on the website. Despite this, 合格/不合格 (pass/not pass) showed up on https://old.chinesetest.cn/ for years, but nowadays that old version is no longer accessible. And 合格/不合格 is still used for the oral HSKK exam. (I've taken the HSK5 once and the HSK6 three times, and none of those certificates say 合格/不合格.) Since then, everyone kept using the "60% = pass" de facto standard, to the point where most people don't even know it was abolished over a decade ago. Many universities use a 60% standard, sometimes it's a 60% overall score (or 180/300), and sometimes they require 60% in all three sections. Different universities have different standards. Quote
