dakonglong Posted September 23, 2025 at 05:25 AM Report Posted September 23, 2025 at 05:25 AM While I absolutely love studying Chinese, it can be a little lonely sometimes. Especially lately, it feels like interest in the language has really declined (or maybe it's just my imagination) and I don't know a single person in real life who shares my hobby. Anyway, I came across this YouTube video today and it reminded me that there's a larger Chinese-learning community out there. It also reminded me why I started learning Chinese in the first place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcoIR7z9yxE&t=1s I'm not normally a fan of overproduced Mr Beast style YouTube videos, but I like this one because it (1) brings together Chinese learners from all over the world, and (2) demonstrates just how many people from different backgrounds have achieved fluency or near-fluency in Chinese (which makes me feel like I could achieve it too). The background info on each competitor also gives you a basic idea of how long they've been studying/immersed in a Chinese environment, which can help you understand how much effort you need to achieve that level of Chinese. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else finds this useful/interesting. Quote
Lu Posted September 23, 2025 at 07:31 AM Report Posted September 23, 2025 at 07:31 AM Thanks for sharing the link! I watched half, it looks fun. But it's, well, interesting to see the demographics of who has been invited and who hasn't. And a good drinking game might be: drink whenever someone says 美女. Or perhaps that would be a bad drinking game. Quote
